The SN65LBC176DR with RS-485 Interface IC Differential Bus Transceiver is an integrated circuit designed by Texas Instruments. It is a half-duplex transceiver used to transmit data in systems with asynchronous serial communication protocols such as those used in RS-485. This IC has a low-power shutdown mode, enhanced electrostatic discharge protection, and over-voltage protection and meets the requirements of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star labeling program. It supports different bus configurations such as two-wire bus, four-wire null-modem configuration, full-duplex configuration, and multi-drop configuration. It also supports up to 10 Mbps data rate and has a maximum cable length of 1200 meters with 32 nodes on the bus. The IC has an enable or disable feature which means that it can either enable or disable the receiver or transmitter and also has an enhanced fail-safe protection feature which ensures that any node failure on the bus does not cause the system to freeze. The IC operates on a supply voltage range of 3V-5.5V DC and has a power consumption of less than 3.5 mA.
