Solar panels and solar cells are photovoltaic (PV) devices that convert the sun's energy into electricity. When photons from the sun strike the top layer, electrons become energized and move from the top to the bottom layer, creating an electric current. Solar cells are smaller than solar panels and are used to power products such as calculators and watches. They contain one layer of semiconductor material and convert light energy directly into electrical energy. Solar cells can be combined to form solar panels, which are then connected to an inverter, allowing the electricity to be used in homes and businesses.
