's Chichester Psalms
1. The third part of the Chichester Psalms is a prayerful response to God, sung in three solo verses in 3-680. There is a lyrical phrase "Make me like the blest" that sets the tone of the section. The soloist is accompanied by strings, high woodwinds, harps and percussion.
2.The soloist sings of sin and repentance, of a need for God’s grace and mercy, and of the need to be forgiven and to forgive. The music is written in a conventional 'church anthem' style, with rhythmic pulsations and an elicitation of a range of choral voices deployed in four-part harmony.
3.The section builds with a sense of urgency and anticipation which is followed by an ethereal, dreamy exploration of text. The orchestration swells, lifting the soloist's intonation in ever-increasing intensity before the chorus resumes their refrain. The soloist's prayer is answered in a triumphant unison 'Amen'.
