Centauri
MC005 is a part of Alpha Centauri, a binary star system located just over 4 light-years from our Solar System. It is the closest stellar system to Sun. It consists of two stars, Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, which are located just fractions of a degree apart in the sky, forming a visual binary star system. Alpha Centauri A is about twice as massive as the Sun and about 20% brighter, while Alpha Centauri B is slightly cooler and less massive. Orbit the pair is a much smaller, faint red dwarf star known as Proxima Centauri. In total, the system contains four stars. MC005 is the designation given to a large, ionized nebula surrounding Alpha Centauri A and B in the system. This nebula is composed of hydrogen, helium, and dust, and is believed to be a remnant of the Solar System’s formation. It provides an interesting target for astronomers studying this part of the heavens.
